Editorial Reviews for  'New Moon (The Twilight Saga, Book 2)'

Product Description
Legions of readers entranced by Twilight are hungry for more and they won't be disappointed. In New Moon, Stephenie Meyer delivers another irresistible combination of romance and suspense with a supernatural twist. The "star-crossed" lovers theme continues as Bella and Edward find themselves facing new obstacles, including a devastating separation, the mysterious appearance of dangerous wolves roaming the forest in Forks, a terrifying threat of revenge from a female vampire and a deliciously sinister encounter with Italy's reigning royal family of vampires, the Volturi. Passionate, riveting, and full of surprising twists and turns, this vampire love saga is well on its way to literary immortality.

Grandmother Approved
As a grandmother, I was very interested in what my grandsons were reading and when I learned that the Twilight Series was also being read by many adults, I decided to take a chance that I might find some common ground with my grandsons and other teenagers.

Although the series cannot be ranked among the classics, like the classics The Twilight Series extolled virtue and self restraint. Because there might be many more teenagers reading Twilight than Pride and Prejudice or Wuthering Heights, I will take the examples of self restraint, deferred gratification and loyal friendship anywhere I can get them!

As an adult, I found the books a little too heavy on young love and passion and a little light on literary conventions, but I would have no trouble reccomending these books to teenagers older than 15 or teens who are mature.

The love of reading is a life long pleasure and anything which encourages reading as well as self restraint gets a double dip of my approval.

2009books Rocks
My daughter loves them! She was tickled pink when she received them for Christmas! 2009books was awesome! I will use them again!

I think I read it even faster than Twilight...
I just couldn't stand for them to be apart...I remember how that feels, being in love like that and feeling incomplete without him, so I can relate even if he IS a vampire!! I did enjoy the developing friendship with Jacob, even if she selfishly led him on (she WAS fairly honest with him, I'll give her that). The reunion was almost anti-climactic after the terrifying visit with the Volturi, but I still found it satisfying. Anway, if you don't have the book handy to read, I would recommend NOT reading the teaser chapter at the end of Twilight!!! I did whatever I had to, to get my hands on this book and see what happened!

Review: New Moon
New Moon continues the story of Bella and Edward's relationship and the troubles that they face together or apart. I really want to enjoy these books but that is difficult when I don't like the main character. Bella is moody and self-absorbed through the entire book. She only decides to hang out with Jacob Black at the insistence of Charlie and to feed her need to hear Edward's voice in her head while doing stupid, dangerous things. Bella is very aware of Jacob's feelings for her but decides to use him anyway. Although the vampire family is not physically present for most of the novel, they are never far from Bella's thoughts and motivate many of her actions. Although I can understand the lure of the handsome, mysterious vampire I also think that most teenagers would have enough sense to understand the danger that the vampires (and other supernatural creatures) pose to a mere human. Instead of running screaming, Bella heads straight toward the danger begging the family to make her one of them.

I did greatly enjoy the section of the story when Bella is thinking about Edward and Jacob and is comparing her situation to Romeo and Juliet. It is clear that Bella is very aware of her actions and how she might hurt Jacob but she manages to rationalize their relationship. Despite knowing how many people she might hurt, Bella continues to forge forward with reckless abandon. I realize that teenagers can be full of angst, especially in first love relationships, however I feel Meyer pushes it a bit over the top in Bella. I do want to like her and these books but I am finding it very difficult to do so.

I will finish reading the series since I'm already halfway through and now I want to know what happens to Bella and Edward but unless Bella becomes more sensible and likable I doubt my reaction to the last two books will be more favorable.

New Moon
The Twilight Saga is one of my favorite series--well written and delightful to read. This paperbook version, though still large, is an easier size to hold, particularly while lying down.
