Editorial Reviews for  'Twilight (The Twilight Saga, Book 1)'

Product Description
"Softly he brushed my cheek, then held my face between his marble hands. ''Be very still,'' he whispered, as if I wasn''t already frozen. Slowly, never moving his eyes from mine, he leaned toward me. Then abruptly, but very gently, he rested his cold cheek against the hollow at the base of my throat. " As Shakespeare knew, love burns high when thwarted by obstacles. In Twilight, an exquisite fantasy by Stephenie Meyer, readers discover a pair of lovers who are supremely star-crossed. Bella adores beautiful Edward, and he returns her love. But Edward is having a hard time controlling the blood lust she arouses in him, because--he''s a vampire. At any moment, the intensity of their passion could drive him to kill her, and he agonizes over the danger. But, Bella would rather be dead than part from Edward, so she risks her life to stay near him, and the novel burns with the erotic tension of their dangerous and necessarily chaste relationship.Meyer has achieved quite a feat by making this scenario completely human and believable. She begins with a familiar YA premise (the new kid in school), and lulls us into thinking this will be just another realistic young adult novel. Bella has come to the small town of Forks on the gloomy Olympic Peninsula to be with her father. At school, she wonders about a group of five remarkably beautiful teens, who sit together in the cafeteria but never eat. As she grows to know, and then love, Edward, she learns their secret. They are all rescued vampires, part of a family headed by saintly Carlisle, who has inspired them to renounce human prey. For Edward''s sake they welcome Bella, but when a roving group of tracker vampires fixates on her, the family is drawn into a desperate pursuit to protect the fragile human in their midst. The precision and delicacy of Meyer''s writing lifts this wonderful novel beyond the limitations of the horror genre to a place among the best of YA fiction. (Ages 12 and up)

2009books.com Review
The book that started the phenomenon is now available in a deluxe collector's edition! Featuring a ribbon bookmark, cloth cover, ragged edges, new chapter opener designs, and a beautiful protective slipcase, this edition is perfect for fans and collectors alike.

Bella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Bella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Bella, the person Edward holds most dear.

Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.

book review: twilight
I bought the twilight book series for myself for Christmas. I have not been disappointed. I just finished the first book in the series and I found it to be a real page turner. I highly recommend this book for anyone from age 14 and up.

twilight is awsome!
i love it! it is thrilling and would be great for anyone who would want to read a love story

Good but not my favorite
I really did love Twilight the first time I read it and then the movie came out... the movie definatley dissapointed me. But it was quite good until i read Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. Breaking Dawn and Eclipse were amazing and I really encourage readers that werent too pleased with Twilight to keep reading and get through New Moon because us Twilight saga fans believe that New Moon was the worst. BUT you MUST read Twilight anyways because many many people come back to haunt Bella and Edward (IF she lives after James! Well I really dont want to wreck the books for you) and you will also learn that Vampires are not the only mythical create that live in Forks by the way. So if you make it through Twilight and New Moon then you will hit the (In my opionion) BEST books ever! So I hope you choose to read the Twilight books you won't be sorry! Thank you for reading my review! Team Emmett!!!!

Can't Help But Love It
Although I was aware of the teeny bopper hype surrounding the Twilight series, I never thought to read these books until after I saw the movie. After watching the movie, I was so intrigued by the idea of a relationship between a vampire and human that I just had to have more. I purchased all 4 books shortly after watching the movie and finished the series within 2 weeks.

Twilight the book was everything I was expecting and more. I am older than the target age group for this series and don't often read young adult literature, but I was not disappointed. I don't know what it is about the relationship between Bella and Edward, but I just couldn't get enough of it. Although the "forbidden love" theme is common, Twilight takes the cliche love story to a whole new level. A relationship between a vampire and a human is not just "forbidden", it is downright lethal - And yet Edward's love for Bella is so strong that he fights his very nature to avoid killing her.

As with most books that have been adapted on the big screen, I have to say that I prefer the book to the movie (although I truly did enjoy the movie and look forward to the next three). I do wish that I had read the book prior to watching the movie, as it is a bit anti-climactic to read a book whose plot (for the most part) and ending is not a surprise. Additionally, I had a hard time escaping the mental images of the characters as depicted in the movie when I was reading this and the other books. Although I think that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart make a great Edward and Bella, I can't help but wonder what image of them I would have had in my head had I not seen the movie first.

I think that Stephenie Meyer created a great story with this book, although as others have mentioned, the amount of typographical errors in the text was somewhat distracting. There were a few instances (in this and the other three books) where I had to pause and re-read something because it just did not make sense to me. Usually I understood what Meyer was trying to say after re-reading it several times, but there was more than one occasion where I just could not make sense of what was being said and had to move on. Sure I am just one person, but if I had this problem I can imagine that other readers did as well.

Overall, Twilight succeeds as a guilty pleasure read and it is not difficult to see why this series has such a large fanbase. Surely I don't think this book will ever become a classic, nor is it one of the deepest pieces of literature that I have ever read, but I would never expect that from a YA book. It is what it is, and I can't imagine anyone going into Twilight with realistic expectations and not enjoying, if not falling in love, with it.

Not the best, not the worst.
I read Twilight mostly out of curiosity, wondering what the big deal was. Overall, I'd say the book is an overwhelming "meh". The story takes awhile to get into, and it is cliched in some of its moments. My biggest complaint was against Meyer's writing style. She refers to Edward as "beautiful" constantly, but I had the hardest time actually picturing him. She finds a small handful of adjectives to describe her characters and rarely deviates from them. Edward's eyes are amazingly deep or he has beautiful marble skin. These constantly get repeated throughout the novel. Bella's motivation to love Edward is ambiguous. She likes him because he's beautiful and mysterious (and apparently because he's a vampire) but she never seems to question this, not once.

I would recommend reading it to judge it for yourself. It certainly isn't for everyone, but I thought it was enjoyable enough to continue on in the series.
